MMFN Elders & Youth Building

Root Interiors helped the Mowachaht Muchalaht First Nation create an interim Elders and Youth Lounge that maximizes impact within a compact building. Within a modest footprint, the space brings together a lounge, dining/ craft area, kitchen, office, washroom, and storage to support two distinct programs. Youth are provided with a safe, welcoming environment for artwork, crafts, peer support, and informal gathering, while elders use the space for meetings and communal meals. Flexible furnishings and multi-use zones allow the building to adapt easily throughout the day, responding to evolving needs and programming. Though temporary, the space was designed with long-term value in mind - supporting cultural continuity, meaningful use, and everyday community life.
